Thesis
The MFA: Costume Design or Costume Technology thesis project is a substantial research project resulting in either a realized garment, production, or installation. This research thesis requires the student to choose a topic of substantial value and scope. The student is responsible for all the planning, researching, experimentation, and documentation required of the Thesis. Their advisor and committee will officially accept the topic at the end of the 4th semester of study. In the final semester of study, the student will formally present the work with comprehensive documentation of the research through completion process. |
Andrea Bouck, Costume Director, has come to UIUC from the Milwaukee Theater Community. She has worn many hats during her decade of work in Milwaukee, chief among them is Costume Shop Manager for First Stage Children’s Theater. Any free time she had she worked as a freelance Crafts Artisan creating foam creatures heads for The Milwaukee Zoological Society, hats for The Metropolitan Opera’s Merry Widow, wings and hats for The Lyric Opera, and turbans for Goodman Theatre’s War Paint. During the summers, she dyes and paints costumes at American Player’s Theater in Spring Green, WI. She has put her Costume Design MFA from UIUC to good work designing costumes for The Milwaukee Rep, First Stage Children’s Theater, Madison Children’s Theater, and Milwaukee Chamber Theater. What brought her back to campus is the opportunity to be part of the present and future of the organization that launched her career and to give to the next generation of students the same opportunities and contacts that she has been so fortunate to have received.
